James Lee wanted to create a flipped classroom setting that would benefit students, offering the opportunity for independent learning via MyLab Math and an interactive textbook, combined with in-class discussion and active assignments. The MyLab Interactive Assignments and exercise feedback allow students to master objectives prior to attending class, where Lee then solidifies that understanding with active in-class assignments. Data show that students who perform better on the Interactive Assignments perform better on other class assessments.

Graduation rates have increased eight percentage points and retention rates have increased ten percentage points after the implementation of Pearson Inclusive Access. Student success rates in gateway mathematics courses have increased 17 percentage points with Inclusive Access in place. A comparative analysis of traditional textbook package prices and Inclusive Access costs indicate that students save an average of 68% off traditional prices when using Inclusive Access course materials.

Students missing three or fewer assignments had an average final course score of 95% — 19 percentage points higher than students who missed four or more assignments and had an average final course score of 76%. Assignment completion is critical to course success, as students must achieve at least 82.5% to pass the course. Since implementing MyLab IT, course evaluation ratings have increased and remained steady, a testament to the course’s new redesigned structure, assignments, and the instructor’s teaching methods.
