This is a transcript of the video on the Educator Features page and Student Features page.

Hi, I'm here to talk to you about some of the exciting features you'll find in MasteringHealth.

Once it was enough to teach just using the text. Yet, for today's students, text and media go hand in hand. They want interactive ways to have health and wellness concepts come to life. MasteringHealth is a online homework, tutorial and assessment tool that brings that high level of interaction, which leads to greater retention of even the toughest course concepts.

Starting things off, we look at how students are overwhelmed by trying to improve upon an established behavior regarding their personal health, and  the steps they must take to achieve that goal. With Behavior Change Videos...

Students are presented with concise whiteboard-style videos that help with the steps of behavior change. They cover topics such as setting SMART goals, identifying and overcoming barriers to change, and planning realistic timelines. Additional videos review key fitness concepts such as determining target heart rate range for exercise. All of the videos include assessment activities that are assignable through MasteringHealth.

Next, we look at the struggle instructors have in finding interactive ways to present key topics to their students. Too often they must rely on fill in the blank or multiple choice questions. As a result, students lose interest and come unprepared to class. But with Health and Fitness Coaching Actives...

Instructors can utilize the activities to guide students through key health and fitness concepts. They are able to utilize the interactive mini-lessons that provide hints and feedback. These drag and drop activities focus on the challenging terminology and concepts of the course. Students feel engaged and end up coming prepared to class.

From there, we examine the challenge instructors have in showing students how concepts they learn in class relate to what they see in popular media. Too often, those students live in a bubble and unwilling to accept that as they age, their health might become an issue. But with ABC News Videos...

Instructors don't need to search the internet to find informative coverage. These fascinating videos are easily accessible in both Mastering and embedded within Power Point presentations. Students will be drawn to a different perspective on the topics they cover in class.

Many instructors are looking for ways to foster a more engaging classroom experience. Some want to flip their classroom while many others are just looking for ways to increase student participation.

Learning Catalytics is an interactive, student response tool that uses students' smartphones, tablets, or laptops to engage them in more sophisticated tasks and thinking. You can pose a variety of open-ended questions that help your students develop critical thinking skills, while monitoring responses to find out where they're struggling, allowing you to adjust your instructional strategy in real-time. You can also use Learning Catalytics to automatically group students for peer-to-peer learning. Plus their work in Learning Catalytics feeds into the Mastering gradebook.

Not every student learns the same way and at the same rate. And now, thanks to advances in adaptive learning technology, you no longer have to teach as if they do. Mastering uses real time data and analytics, to reinforce concepts that target each student's strengths and weaknesses.

Dynamic Study Modules help students study effectively on their own, using adaptive algorithms that adjust the content based on each student's understanding of the concepts.

Students complete an initial set of questions with a unique answer format that asks them to indicate their confidence level. Once completed, Dynamic Study Modules provide students with explanations of the answer, using materials from the text. The questions repeat until the student can answer them all correctly and confidently. These modules can be accessed on smartphones, tablets, and computers, so students can study virtually anywhere, anytime.

Finally, instructors often don't want to collect paper copies of self assessments in health or the labs in fitness, while students don't want the hassle of physically turning something in. With the Self Assessment and Labs feature...

Students are able to complete self assessments and labs electronically. They never need to worry about losing their work, and instructors will have less papers to collect and lug around.
