MyITLab educator study examines demonstration of Excel proficiency at University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee

MyITLab was included as a key component of an Accounting Information Systems course to help students demonstrate proficiency in Excel. MyITLab allowed the instructor to consistently assess student competency in Excel with little effort or additional time. Acclaim badges were received by 95 percent of students on two Capstone Grader projects in MyITLab, allowing students to show current and potential employers their mastery of specific skills.

Data for this course indicate that a very strong positive correlation exists between average MyITLab Skill Training scores and average MyITLab Grader Project exam scores, for the applications portion of the course. Also, students who had higher MyITLab Tech In Action homework scores had higher MyITLab Tech in Action quiz scores for the concepts portion of the course.

After personalizing his online Business Statistics course, adjunct instructor Delbert Spear saw improvement in course pass rates, with As and Bs increasing 245 percent and Fs decreasing by 100 percent. Students who utilized their two attempts on quizzes and tests increased their scores by 22 percentage points and 10 percentage points, respectively.
