Enhanced Mobile Capabilities

Updated Exercise Player

In June, approximately 80 MyLab Math and MyLab Statistics courses were moved from a Flash Player to the updated and streamlined HTML5 Player for delivering exercises on all devices. We will continue to transition courses to this new player in late December 2015 and throughout the Spring of 2016. The switch from Flash to HTML5 will make working in the MyLab better for instructors and students.

Exercise Usability

Inactivity Timeout

Students who show no activity for 60 minutes when working in a homework assignment will be prompted to continue. If no response is given, the assignment session will end in 5 minutes. "Activity" is defined as any keystrokes or mouse clicks within the question or assignment, and any work completed prior to the session ending is saved. This gives instructors a more accurate view of time spent.

Update to Exercise Math Palette

When answering certain questions, such as those that involve factoring or the quadratic formula, students will now have access to a +/- button in the accompanying math palette in the new HTML5 Player. This button will simplify the answer–input process for students.

Question Pooling

When creating tests or quizzes, instructors will now see the "Pool" and "Unpool" buttons—in other words, pooling has been enabled by default, thereby saving instructors a few clicks and some precious time.

Gradebook & Reporting Updates

Enhancements to Student Results Importing

Instructors will be able to easily and automatically import student results from courses between different editions of a book and/or a national to custom version of a course. Instructors can import results even for assignments that differ in the number and type of questions by manually mapping the assignments. Study Plan mastery results are also transferrable to the new course, should instructors choose to do so.

Managing Incompletes

When instructors go to the "Manage Incompletes" page for in-progress tests or quizzes, they can now just accept the default setting for submitting current score instead of submitting zeros, which was the previous default.

Course Management Improvements

Section Instructor Notification

In June, we released updated functionality for Section Instructor access. With December's update, the primary course owner will now receive an email notification whenever a new instructor enrolls into a course section.

Learning Catalytics Update

Released October 2015

  • Course sharing: instructors now have the ability to send a copy of a course to another instructor. That instructor then has full access to the course and any changes they make are reflected in their own account, without affecting the original course.
  • Enhanced Editor: an additional "options" field is now available for multiple choice questions so instructors can add superscripts, subscripts, etc. to answer choices more easily.

Coming in December 2015

  • Updated Homepage: our newly updated Learning Catalytics home page will make it easier for users to access program information and support.
  • Various Updates: we are working to improve the overall interface and usability requested by current users. These include overall performance improvements; fixes to the grading engine to address answers with commas and spaces; and updates to Team Sessions, allowing student to join or re-join a team at any time.
