MyLab Education Tour Video Transcript

This is a transcript of the video on the Educator Features page and Student Features page.

Hi. I’m here to talk to you about some of the exciting features you’ll find in MyLab Education.

Created specifically for Teacher Education students and instructors, MyLab Education is designed to support students’ mastery and application of the skills they’ll need for successful careers in teaching.

Today we’ll talk about embedded videos, self-check assessments, and interactive application exercises and assessments.

Developing a strong understanding of foundational concepts is crucial for teacher candidates’ success. But, it can be difficult for students to stay engaged in their course material and visualize theories and strategies without having access to real classrooms.

As students read their MyLab Education eText, they'll see links to videos that expand on what they’ve just read. The videos showcase expert teachers in action. Students can observe actual classroom scenarios and teaching strategies without stepping foot in a classroom. And, because the videos are embedded in the eText, students will stay engaged in their reading, and be better able to understand difficult concepts before coming to class.

Class time is a valuable resource. It’s important for students to come prepared so instructors can spend time on higher level concepts rather than review. The self-check assessments in MyLab Education help students master content and come to class ready to take their learning to the next level.

Throughout the eText, multiple-choice assessments allow students to check their understanding. Immediate answer feedback quickly identifies concepts they have mastered and those they have not. Students can view their results by learning outcome, helping them focus on the material they still need to learn.

Finally, it’s important for students to hone their observation and analysis skills to prepare for student teaching and beyond.

Interactive Application Exercises and Assessments ask students to apply what they have learned. As they analyze dynamic videos, case studies, and artifacts, students strengthen their ability to closely analyze teaching—a critical skill set that prepares them for classroom observation, student teaching, and their own classrooms.

All of students’ responses to the exercises and assessments are reported to the gradebook. Instructors can easily identify concepts that the class might be struggling with, and tailor their instruction accordingly.
