Tips for Those with Visual Impairments
Screen Resolution
You may find that lowering your screen resolution helps you see text and images more easily. As a start, try a resolution of 800 x 600 (in Windows) and see how that works for you. Learn more about how to change your screen resolution.
Browser Zoom
While you are working, you may want to magnify certain areas of the site. Use the zoom-in hotkeys available in most browsers.
Screen Magnifiers
Users who need to magnify a page may find that operating system or third-party magnification programs work best. These programs have more options for magnification strength and other display settings including color and contrast.
Specifying Color and Contrast Settings
Some users may find that using a high contrast of a specific color scheme may help them to see content on pages. For example, a user may find it easier to see light text on a dark background, dark text on a light background, or in grayscale.
Accessible eTextbooks
MyLab IT offers accessible eTextbooks. Please contact Pearson Disability Support with the author, title, edition and ISBN of your product for more details.
Simulated Microsoft® Office Training & Assessment Activities
- Simulated Microsoft Office 2019 Training and Assessment activities are produced in HTML5, and delivered via web browsers using cloud-technology, based on Pearson Accessibility Standards.
- Simulation content and navigation features include alternative descriptions for compatibility with assistive technology. Alternative descriptions for images are forthcoming.
- Simulation activities include ClickHear Mobile, a software tool that provides full voicing of web browser content using high-quality, natural-sounding voices, in addition to language translation assistance in several languages. Normally licensed as a standalone product used as an aid for low-vision and language- or reading-impaired computer users, ClickHear Mobile has been modified and enhanced for seamless integration with the MyLab IT interface.
- Simulation activities include keyboard support for all actions where a Microsoft Office keyboard shortcut is available.
- MyLab IT Live-In-The-Application Grader Projects are automatically graded student assignments downloaded from MyLab IT, completed in the actual Microsoft Office Application, and then uploaded to MyLab IT for automatic grading. User pathways to access and submit MyLab IT Grader Projects are accessible via assistive technology. Accessibility of the actual Grader Project is defined by Microsoft Office compatibility, and therefore accessible.
- Objective-Based Question Activities, such as True/False and Multiple Choice, are accessible with keyboard navigation and screen readers.
Premium Multimedia
Premium multimedia content, such as audio, animation, graphics, and videos are accessible via keyboard navigation and screen readers.
Videos include closed captions. To turn on closed captions, click on the “CC” button toward the lower right of the video. If you don’t see the “CC” button, place your mouse toward the bottom of the video frame until the video controls appear.
Please contact Pearson Disability Support if you encounter any issues with premium multimedia in your course.

Many student supplements are accessible or are in the process of remediation to meet accessibility requirements.
