Following a week-long boot camp with MyFoundationsLab, 338 Laredo Community College students improved their TSIA (Texas Success Initiative Assessment) scores, bypassing one or more developmental education courses and saving an average $1241.99 tuition (in-district) per student or an estimated $114,510 for the cohort.

Gadsden State CC assesses the impact of Smarthinking online tutoring on student success and completion

Average GPA of students who accessed Smarthinking online tutoring is 2.8242 compared to an average 2.2679 GPA for all students enrolled fall 2016. Graduation rate among students who accessed Smarthinking online tutoring is 47.5 percent compared to Gadsden State’s Right to Know graduation rate of 20 percent.

Despite more than tripling enrollments in one semester and experiencing a subsequent drop in ABC rates, success rates rebounded quickly and increased to a never-before-seen rate of 84 percent in Fall 2015, up 8 percentage points from 75 percent in Fall 2012 (baseline semester).

Data indicate strong, positive correlations between MyLab IT Simulation Trainings and MyLab IT Grader Projects, between MyLab IT Grader Projects and Capstone Grader Projects, and between MyLab IT Grader Projects and exam scores, suggesting positive relationships exist between successive course assignments. Students who earned Grader Project scores 90 percent or greater had exam scores an average of 14 percentage points higher than students who earned Grader Project scores less than 90 percent. Over 90 percent of student survey respondents reported they were able to use the Word and Excel skills learned from MyLab IT in real-life situations during the course of the semester.

Students with an overall MyLab IT score of 70 percent of higher had average test scores 29 percentage points higher than students with an overall MyLab IT score of less than 70 percent. 88 percent of student survey respondents said they were able to use the Word skills learned from MyLab IT in real-life situations (another course, a job, internship, etc.) during the course of the semester. Assigning MyLab IT Simulation Trainings in advance of class time facilitates the flipped classroom environment preferred by Professor Umrah.
